The project redevelops the historic heart of Como near the Cathedral. The intervention reorganizes via Pretorio and piazza Roma, restoring urban coherence to an area of significant historical and monumental value for the entire community.
Paving in porphyry and granite defines the square's surface, tracing the outlines of the 11th-century cathedral. The design evokes the historical stratifications that have shaped the center of Como over the centuries.
Towards via Plinio, four mulberry trees form a “green broletto”. It recalls the narthex of San Giacomo and the local silk production tradition, linking the memory of the territory with the new architectural structure of the square.
Two fountains in Moltrasio stone and a granite walkway define the axis of San Giacomo. The overflow water creates reflections of the historic city, while slender lighting elements enhance the space's symmetry.
